This is to remind you of the annual UVA Classics Day, which will be held this year on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Last year this event was a huge success, and we were so excited to welcome over 100 middle and high school students to the UVA campus to participate in Classics Day. Two years ago we were unable to host the event because of low registration numbers, so we are writing early to let you know about the event and give you the opportunity to register your school as soon as possible. If you are unable to register yet, then please get this event on your calendar so that we can have as many schools attend as possible!

The Classics Department at the University of Virginia is extremely excited to welcome middle and high school students to our Charlottesville campus in April for a day of fun, classically-related events. This is a great opportunity for high school students to get an inside look at the department not only to see to see whether they are interested in a major in Classics, but also to spend some time on UVA's campus and get more familiar with the university. There will be a Classics majors panel at some point during the day for prospective majors to come and talk to current majors at UVA about the department and collegiate classics in general.

The day will include several rounds of certamen and activity sessions. These activity sessions are targeted at students of all ages, and will include some ludi games, information sessions, skits, and other fun activities for students of both middle and high school ages. Classics Day is not just a certamen, so some students who are not necessarily interested in playing certamen will still have opportunities to have a great time and learn a little both about Classics and our program here at UVA. Registration fees for certamen will be $20 per team registered, and boxed lunches will be provided for $7 per person.

The schedule for the day can be found here, and the link for registration can be found here. Registration will be open until the Thursday before the certamen (April 5), but teams registered before March 17 will be eligible for a discounted registration fee of only $18 per team. Parking will be available at Scott Stadium, and registration and our guest lecture (by UVA faculty) will be held nearby.
