The Department encourages graduate students to consider a period of study abroad, whether during the summer or the academic year. The University of Virginia is a member of the American Academy in Rome and the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. Several Classics students have studied in the year-long and summer programs at the School and in one of the Academy's two summer programs. The faculty is happy to help arrange other study abroad as desired and fitting for a student's course of study. Funds from the Department are available to help support study abroad.
