Congratulations to Jacqueline Arthur-Montagne, Assistant Professor of Classics, for winning a grant of $28,400 from the Jefferson Trust to develop a new course for undergraduates entitled ‘Saving Athenian Democracy,’ to be offered in 2023 jointly by the Department of Classics and UVA’s Democracy Initiative. This new interactive course will be a hands-on learning experience designed to expose UVA students to the ancient roots of our modern democracy, and to challenge them to study and role-play the lives of the ancient Athenians who worked to restore their democracy between 403–398.
