Andrew Lear earned his M.A. in the department in 1997 and then my Ph.D. at UCLA in 2004. After teaching Classics at Pomona College and NYU and publishing a book with Routledge, he founded two tour companies. Oscar Wilde Tours [LINK: www.oscarwildetours.com] specializes in useum tours in the US and high-end multi-day tours in Europe and is the first company to organize tours focusing on gay history and LGBTQ themes in art. Shady Ladies Tours [LINK: www.shadyladiestours.com] focuses on the courtesans and mistresses whose portraits line the walls of the world's museums. Dr. Lear is also developing a gay history TV series for the BBC with author/actor Stephen Fry.
