Erica Krause is a 2024-26 recipient of the Jefferson Fellowship, which she received for work on her dissertation, Animal Ceteris Imperaturum: Dark Ecology in Latin Literature.

The Jefferson Fellows Program recognizes graduate students in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences who have made exceptional contributions to the University of Virginia and who exhibit the highest promise as scholars, teachers, public servants, and leaders in academia and beyond. The focus of the Jefferson Fellowship, developed in close partnership with GSAS administration, is designed to ensure that outstanding graduate students at UVA have the opportunity to complete ambitious dissertations, gain independent teaching experience, and launch distinguished careers in an increasingly challenging academic job market. Jefferson Fellowships bridge the dissertation completion year and the postdoctoral year, choreographing the Fellows’ transition from graduate student to careers as faculty, professional researchers or public intellectuals.
